How to Record a Candidate Video

Standing out from the crowd. Congratulations. You've been selected by your recruiter to be presented to their client. Your recruiter utilizes the latest technologies to make sure you stand out from the crowd, and one of those technologies is a video introduction. Now we know that recording a video can sometimes be daunting, so we've identified four quick tips to help you record a great video introduction.

Tip number one, check the tech. Make sure you know how to use the camera. If you're using a smartphone, consider asking someone to record you, preferably in landscape mode, to avoid those annoying black lines on either side of your video. Alternatively, place it securely so there's no camera shake from holding it for too long. Learn how to trim the video using simple tools on your phones so you have a smooth start and ending. If you don't know how to do it, ask someone to help you or search the Internet on how to trim video on my phone or computer.

Tip number two the perfect surroundings when preparing your surroundings for a video interview, you should adopt the same approach as if you're trying to sell your house. To maximize your chances of success, it's much better to keep it simple and neutral, having no mess or clutter on view. Shouldn't need to be stated, but also avoid weird paintings or bright wallpaper and anything else that might distract the potential employer from what you're saying.

Tip number three smile. You're on camera. Be natural, though. Don't worry about a few ums and ahs. It makes you human. But when talking, look directly at the camera, but don't stare incessantly. Break your gaze on occasion and coming back to that smile, do start and end your video with one.

Tip number four, employer expectations. The potential employer wants to get a good feel for your personality, experience and expertise, just like in a real interview scenario. As this is the case, they won't be expecting a completely polished performance, so try not to let your nerves get the better of you. The potential employer will expect the odd pause, stumble, and fidget, just like in a face to face interview. Don't be too self conscious, but just as if it was a face to face interview. Be yourself and it'll be great. By taking a little time to prepare before recording a video interview, you'll greatly increase your chances of landing the job, which will take you to the next level in your career.

If you're struggling with anything, please do speak to your recruiter for further support and guidance. Best of luck.
